Chairman's Message

Looking back on the 2011
season, the weather was not the best, but most Saturday matches took place, but
it would have been nice to see a bit of sunshine.
We started the year by gaining 2 new teams, Swansea and Neath and then lost
Winch Wen and Hendy. Some clubs had problems with the availability of grounds,
Swansea, Neath, Llandarcy and Landore all experienced difficulties with their
fixtures, but in the end most of the fixtures were played.
I would like to thank our Secretary Steve Jones and his Assistant Trevor Jones
for all they do on behalf of the Association. Mr. Brian Crockett, our Treasurer,
was not in the best of health during the year, but managed to carry out his
duties as best he could and I hope he will be back to his best next season.
Mr, Richard Lewis, our Umpires Administrator, did the best he could and if we
are unable to recruit new Umpires, we shall see a situation arise that we can
only guarantee umpires in the top 2 divisions.
I would also like to thank all the members of the Management Committee, for all
they do during the season.
Congratulations go to Dafen C.C. on winning the “Dan Radcliffe Trophy” for the
fist time in 37 years. Congratulations also to Maesteg Celtic Champions of
Division 2, Llandysul, Champions of Division 3 and Swansea Civil Service,
Champions of Division 4. In the K.O. Cup Final, Gowerton won the “Alcwyn Jenkins
Trophy” by beating Port Talbot Town at Neath.
For the 2011 season we introduced individual awards for all Divisions. The
“Batsman of the Year” for Division 1 was Andrew Beasley (Ynystawe), Division 2,
Thomas Merilaht (Cowbridge), Division 3, Marcus Leaf (Pwll ) and Division 4,
Geraint Reynolds (Margam).
“Bowler of the Year” Division 1, was Michael Jones (B.S. Port Talbot), Division
2, Iwan Rees (Llanelli), Division 3, Rhodri Jones (Llandysul) and Division 4,
Mathew Griffiths (Swansea C.S.). “Wicket Keeper of the Year” in Division 1 was
Daniel Vaughan (Dafen), Division 2, Wayne Thomas (Pontyberem), Division 3, Chris
Richards (Porthcawl) and Division 4, Evan Davies (Swansea C.S.).
We also introduced a Fair Play league in which Umpires marked Club’s and
Ynystawe came out on top in Division 1 and Maesteg in Division 2.
On a sad note we lost 2 life members during the year, Mr. Haydon Beynon, former
Chairman of the Association and Mr. Ches Evans. Both had given long and faithful
service to the S.W.C.A. We have to thank Thomas Carroll Group PLC, who have
completed their first year as our sponsors. I hope it will be a long and
successful partnership for the both of us, so can I ask if you require any
Insurance for your Club, please ask our sponsors for a quote.
At our last A.G.M., it was decided to include a new Team for the 2012 Season,
Llantwit Major Cavaliers, who will be playing Division 4.
I will give you a brief update on the SWALEC Premier League. The proposal to go
to 2 Divisions has been withdrawn and the latest idea is to increase to 12
teams. As yet, no further information is available and before any change takes
place, S.W.C.A. Club’s will have the right to vote on any proposal.
Cricket Wales has now become the ruling body for Cricket in Wales, taking over
from the Cricket Board of Wales and the Welsh Cricket Association.
